Pahang National Park is a popular eco-tourism destinations in Malaysia. There are many attractions in terms of geological and biological in the park. Tahan mountain is the highest point in Peninsular Malaysia, and is located in Taman Negara as Kuala Tahan hikers can use as a starting point. National Park has many rare and endangered mammals, such as the tiger, tapir, elephants, deer, wild boar, deer, and buffalo.
Our expedition to Taman Negara started as early as 08:00AM. We’re all required to gather at the Han Travel’s office in Wisma Selangor, located near to the famous Petaling Street. We left the big city by special van that was provided by Hans Travel. The journey took almost 4 hours to reach our destination and we stopped at few points for refreshment.
We reached Kuala Tembeling jetty at exact 12:00PM and was asked to wait for the boat that was scheduled on 01:00PM. Our arrival was then greeted by the friendly staffs of Han Travel and we were briefed a little bit on our boat ride to Kuala Tahan as well as the activities that can be participated in Taman Negara. Once the boat arrived, we unloaded all our luggage on the boat in no time and took the front seat – just to enjoy the fresh air. The journey took another 3 hours to reach Kuala Tahan. Along the way, we grab the opportunity to record some few beautiful surroundings that I ever encounter in my life with the camera.
As we reached the Kuala Tahan, we stopped at Mawar Restaurant – the meeting point for Han Travel’s guest. We were then guided to register ourselves for all the activities that we planned to take part during our visit. We were also asked to get the entrance permit to Taman Negara which is required for all visitors to enter the Taman Negara. We have to pay for RM1 per person and RM5 per camera. Later, a jeep came to fetch us and we were sent to Rainfrest Resort for our 3 days 2 stay.
Rainforest Resort is quite a popular resort in Kuala Tahan – managed by the new Han Travel. The resort consists of more than 90 rooms and we were given a deluxe room for our stay. We were greeted by the friendly staffs from the Reception. Without wasting our time, we checked in to our room to rest and refreshed ourself after a total of 7 hour trip.
Once we entered the room, we were suprised with the condition of the room. There are not much of items in the room but it was designed to match the calm surrounding of the resort. The room is very simple, yet tidy and clean. Once we done refreshing ourself, we met the owner of the resort, Mr. Kenny. We shared our experience during the trip and not to forget my first amazing boat trip from Kuala Tembeling jetty to Kuala Tahan. We were then briefed a little bit on the resort. The resort is occupied with more than 90 rooms – and another 40 is still under construction.
Most of the rooms are occupied with new furniture. We also grab the opportunity to see other type of rooms offered by the resort.
At 07:30PM, we get ready of ourselves to join a dinner at the Floating Restaurant. Our main dish is a so called wild breeded catfish that cost us almost RM200 all together. It was a very delicious dinner I ever had in this few months, perhaps. And after that we joined one of the famous night activity – Jungle Walk. The jungle walk took at least 2 hours and we had our opportunity to see few nocturnal fauna that is active at night like the Bird Eating Spider, scorprions and more. We also had our chance to see the wild tapir – another attraction in Taman Negara. And after that, we were sent back to our resort and we had a refreshing night sleep after a tiring day.
The next day, we woke up as early as 07:00AM to catch our breakfast, served at the cafe. And after that, we get ourself ready for the morning activity – the Canopy Walk and hiking which is the main reason why we came all the way from KL. We were sent back to the Mawar Restaurant to wait for the others before we were sent to the point by boat.
Taman Negara’s famous canopy walkway, the longest of its kind in the world, is well signposted from Kuala Tahan. From the treetops, we are able to see many kinds of trees and the magical surrounding offered only in Taman Negara. It took nearly 20 minutes to complete the whole activity and we climbed up further to the famous viewpoint of Gunung Tahan – Bukit Teresek.
The hiking took us another 40 minutes before we reached the viewpoint. The onward path to the high point of Bukit Teresek is also clearly marked and easy to follow. And once we reached, the stunning view of Gunung Tahan mesmerize us and we stay on the viewpoint for almost 30 minutes just to enjoy the scene. And after that, we come back to the boat and back to our resort. After lunch, we rest a while in the resort and took the chance to explore around.
At night, we joined another night activity – the Night Safari. A jeep came and fetch us at the resort and I had my chance to sit on top of the jeep with the clearest view to every angle. The activity went for almost 2 hours in the jungle and we saw numbers of mammals which are active at night. One of it was the wildcats – the cat with the size of normal cat but with the skin of a leopard. That was my first time knowing that we actually do have this kind of beautiful creatures in Malaysia.
Apart of that, we also encounters the fox, birds and some other in the darkness of the night. I took the chance to get to know others too – mostly foreigner and they were incredibly friendly. We shared our experience as the locals as this is my first time visiting the oldest rainforest in the world! Then we were sent back to our resort for us to rest. Again we had a good night sleep.
The next day, we get ready for our departure with the boat. After breakfast, we were sent to the Mawar Restaurant to wait for our boat back to Kuala Tembeling Jetty. And after that, we took the van and shoot back to Kuala Lumpur.
It was a memorable journey for us and we thank everyone who made this trip possible. Thank you again and we hope we can come again to catch another promising activities.
